action plan to fight A.D. in India

Dear All,

Being in Elder Care for some years I had the opportunity to work with people suffering from Alzheimer's and also their family members.

There is no cure for Alzheimer's, though there is treatment to stabilizes the Patient. Its one form of Dementia and the person suffers from Memory Loss. The rough estimate of people suffering from Dementia is 2% to 3% of the total Elderly population in India

Its terrible to see our own spouse, family members suffering form this diseases and forgetting things like day to day routine work, they forget their own partners and family members and many time become in manageable.

Since couple of years few NGO's like ARDSI has done some awareness and Central government has woken up.

We need a Action plan from Center, State Government, NGO's and Corporate.

We need to discuss:

Why not take All India Survey

The care aspect

Psycho social care

R & D

Alternate Therapies - Pet therapy, Music Therapy, Reflexology, Garden Therapy etc

Day care Center

24 x 7 Care homes

Care givers and Care takers training programme and module

Special ward in each Municipal / Big hospital

Support groups for family members

Medical treatment

Awareness among the General Practitioner and Medical fraternity

Awareness among the common man

Awareness among the Institution like Police, Schools and Colleges

Benefits for the care givers form their offices - like maternity leave

Legal angle

Tracking

Dementia Register in each Taluka /District

And so on many such issues

Can a Celebrity come Ahead and be part of National Campaign (like Polio and AIDS ) and help the cause.
